On November 3, 2014 during the Global Conference on Sustainable Beef, it was announced that the GRSB membership had overwhelmingly approved the Principles and Criteria for Defining Global Sustainable Beef.

The mission of the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef is to advance continuous improvement in global beef value chain sustainability, through leadership, science, and multi-stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
This document addresses the levels of Principles and Criteria. It deliberately avoids the more context specific levels of Indicators, Metrics or Practices. The development of these principles has involved both members and external experts in all fields, from producers, extension and academic organisations, processors and NGOs to food safety and animal health experts, as well as consideration of the comments we received during the public comment period.
